Dioxin (C₁₂H₄Cl₄O₂) is a representative of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), an extremely persistent organic toxin. Not produced intentionally, but formed as a byproduct during herbicide production, organochlorine compounds, cellulose bleaching, waste and plastic incineration. Known as 'Vietnam poison' — component of Agent Orange herbicide. One of the most toxic synthetic substances.
