Mechanism of action Acts on central nervous system by blocking gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in brain, causing uncontrolled neuronal electrical activity and severe convulsions. Rapidly absorbed through gastrointestinal tract, mucous membranes, and through wounds into bloodstream.
Lethal dose 0.1-0.3 mg/kg body weight for humans
Time to death Oral: symptoms after 15-60 minutes, death within 1-3 hours; bloodstream entry: death within 30-90 minutes
