Anisatin (C₁₅H₂₀O₈) is a neurotoxic terpene found in the fruits of Illicium anisatum (Japanese star anise, not to be confused with edible star anise Illicium verum). Used only in toxicological research and pharmacological toxicometry. Not used in cooking or medicine. Poisonings often occur from accidental consumption of Japanese star anise instead of the edible variety.
